Setting
The Date
Couples who wish to
be married at The Old South Union Church should make their plans as far
in advance as possible. Please contact the church office (781-335-2545)
as soon as you have chosen the date for your wedding.
Meeting With The Pastor
One
or more meetings with the pastor will be required. It is your responsibility
to schedule your first appointment with the pastor about four to six months
before your wedding. The pastor will meet with you to talk about your
marriage and to help you plan the ceremony.
- The Rehearsal
-
A date and time for the wedding rehearsal will be set when you meet
with the pastor for the first time. Wedding rehearsals take about
30 minutes. Please be sure that your entire wedding party is on time
for the rehearsal.
-
- Sanctuary
Or Chapel
- The
chapel can hold up to 100 guests. The sanctuary can hold up to 450 guests.
The chapel has a good electronic organ. The sanctuary has a magnificent
pipe organ.
-
Both have a center aisle.
-
- Clergy
- We
require one of our pastors to conduct your wedding ceremony. You may
invite other clergy to participate in the service. We are very open
to sharing the service with visiting clergy, but we no longer permit
weddings without the participation of one of our ministers.
-
- Music
-
The church organist will be happy to discuss the music for your wedding
ceremony. It is your responsibility to contact the organist several
weeks before your ceremony. Our organist plays for all services at Old
South unless other arrangements are made with the organist in advance.
Soloists and special musicians (flute, harp, trumpet, etc.) are welcome.
If you have arranged for your own soloist, he or she should contact
our organist. Soloists and musicians should bring a copy of their music
for the organist. The church does not set fees for the soloists and
the musicians that you provide. Please make your own arrangements with
them. The church can provide a soloist, if you wish, for an additional
$100.00.
-
- Photography
And Videography
-
Please ask your photographer or videographer to check with the pastor
about the church's guidelines. Our simple request is that they do not
distract from the ceremony in any way.
-
- Other
Details
- The
church does have a nice brass holder for a unity candle. You must provide
your own unity candle.
-
The church can provide 2 candelabra for candlelight weddings.
-
Aisle Carpets ("runners") are your responsibility. An aisle
carpet is not necessary and often is more of a nuisance than an asset.
-
You may have your receiving line in the narthex or outdoors if you wish.
-
You may use the Pruden Parlor for formal photographs.
-
Please do not throw rice or confetti.
-
Please remember that Old South is smoke-free - smoking is strictly prohibited.
-
Please remember that the celebration begins after the ceremony and not
on church property. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the church
premises.
-
- Marriage
License
-
You must obtain a marriage license from a town or city hall within the
Commonwealth prior to your marriage ceremony. Details are available
at is@sec.state.ma.us It
is best to bring your license to the wedding rehearsal.
